My class created the following frogs.  I think they came out sooo cute!!  The students had to redesign the cover of a novel they read.  On the back, they were instructed to write a summary of the book. This is my favorite project!!!! I love them!!!

~~Happy Birthday~~

I just realized that my blog turned 1 year on March 4.  I have been so busy at school that the date passed me by.  If you would have asked me about my blog one year ago, I would have told you that I hope to have some followers!  I now have 225 followers and 160,000 page views!!! I am more than happy with my blog!!!  Since last year, I now sell products on TpT (actually I have sold 8 units of my Charlotte's Web questions!), participate in many linky parties (a year ago I didn't even know the word Linky!), and just LOVE, LOVE blogging!!!  I have made many friends throughout this year from all over the globe.  I am very thankful for everyone who took a chance on me and my little blog.  I can't wait to see what the future holds!!!!

Not only did I make a year on my blog, my niece is 16 years old and driving!!!!  I am so proud of the young woman she has become.  Happy 16th Birthday Paige!! I love you lots!!!!

Here is Paige with my other nieces: Erica, Abby, Emma, and my daughter, Catherine!  I love all of these girls so much!  They are my heart!!!

Now some work news:
Here is a symmetry activity my students completed during the Geometry unit.  Students had to trace their feet.  They created symmetrical pictures for the bottom of the feet.  They came out great!

~~Pig and Spider Research Reports & Freebies~~

We are finished our unit on Charlotte's Web.  As a treat to end the unit, my class will have a mini-fair on Friday.  There will be chips, cotton candy, pickles, candy, cookies, and cupcakes.  Students will watch the movie picnic-style, completed with goodies to eat and blankets to lay on.  I want to give a shout out to my awesome parents for providing everything!!!!  Throughout this week, my students completed several end-of-the-book activities.  They redesigned the cover of the novel, created paper bag characters, made a sharing board, and researched either a type of pig or spider. Don't worry, I have some freebies for you too!!!

I have decided to upload all the questions for Charlotte's Web to TpT.  I have a set of questions for each chapter.  I also made tests (6 in all).  I will email a copy of the tests and questions to the first 5 people who comment below and leave an email!!!  I decided against selling the tests on TpT because parents may get their hands on them!

The first activity you will see is our spider and pig research reports.  Students were given either a type of pig or spider to research.  I used the spider and pig report pages from my Charlotte's Web Unit.  The unit is free so feel free to download your report forms.  After researching the pig/spider, students completed a flee map.  For those familiar with Write From the Beginning, you will recognize the flee map.  A flee map is a way for students to organize their writing. Students color code their boxes to help when writing the paragraphs.  Grab your free copy of the flee map (HERE). You can grab your copy of the pig and spider stationary (HERE) and (HERE).

~~Geometry & Freebies~~

We began our geometry unit last week.  I wanted to do some different activities this year to make the unit hands-on for my students.  Geometry is a fun unit to teach and the students always respond to the lessons.  The unit started off with plane figures.  We discussed edges, faces, & vertices as a class and made anchor charts in our journals.  For my hands-on activity, students were placed into groups. I gave each group marshmallows and toothpicks.  They had to build 3-D shapes.  Last year, I used pretzel sticks but they didn't work out too well with the marshmallows.  Check out the finished shapes.

The next day we learned about types of lines.  My students loved drawing the different types.  We had a long discussion about which streets in our town were parallel and intersecting.  Each student used toothpicks and a piece of card stock to make each type.  Check them out below.

Today we discussed types of angles.  I did this idea last year and it was a hit with the class.  Students made "Angle Ashley" or "Angle Andy".  Each student received 2 pipe cleaners (different colors).  One was for the body and the other for arms &  legs.  Students paired up with a friend and made angles with the arms and legs.  I set my timer for 2 minutes and let them go.  I just sat back and watched in amazement as the students laughed and had fun!  Check out our "Angle Buddies" below!

We also made an angle foldable to help remember the types of angles.  I decided to use scrapbook sheets instead of plain paper.  The scrapbook paper was larger and thicker.  Check them out below!

We worked on types of triangles.  I introduced the different types of triangles to the class. I found this cute foldable from Fabulous in Fifth and knew my students would love it!  My class loves making foldables for any type of skill.  I gave the students a ruler and had them draw each type of triangle on construction paper.  Then, they cut out the triangle and glued it next to the correct triangle.  Check out the finished products below.

What a week!!!  I made a chart of geometric shapes for a review.  Please enjoy!!!!
